Classwork: Do Now 4/2/2012

It's been a while since we reviewed Inkscape tools and had a legit tutorial. With spring break coming up, it will be even longer before we really delve back into the finer techniques of vector graphics.

To make this stuff stick in our brains, let's review!

In the comments, please leave a message that briefly describes a tool you have learned about. Don't be too brief. Use my example as a model.

Example: To scroll around on the canvas, you can use the scroll bars (obviously!), but also the CTRL+arrow shortcut, which is sometimes quicker and easier. Just hold CTRL and press the arrows in the direction you want to move the canvas!

When you finish, come up to the board.

  1. With all the zooming options on Inkscape, it's easy to get lost on the canvas. Therefore, there is the feature to click "5", to get you centered on the canvas.

  2. To paint the canvas a color, you have to use the polygon tool to create a rectangle on the canvas, the size of the canvas. Then you have to fill in the rectangle by using the paint tool, which doesn't colors, but applies a layer of color on top of the box.

  7. Nodes Tool-

The pen tool allows you to make little alterations and allows you to adjust your art work. In order to use the node tool you have to turn the object into a path. Afterwards, you can make various changes and can alter your work and make it more perfect to yourself.

  8. When you want to design any shape of words. You can use the pen tool to create any irregular shape. You just select the color and use your mouse to create whatever you want. That is the pen tool and how it works.

  12. By using the node pointer tool, you can easily change any path or object that is converted to a path. You can do this by selecting the path and then selecting one of the nodes in that path and then moving it or converting it to a different type of node.

  15. A tool on Inkscape is the re-size tool. When you re-size an image you can click on it and drag it to what ever size you'd like. But, if you want it to stay in proportion while you make the image larger you can click on the lock by by the measurements of the figure and when you make the image larger it will stay in proportion.

  16. I learned that the pen that makes the Bezier curves will only make straight lines if you hold the click and release at the point when you want it to go. If you don't hold it, it will make frustrating curves.

  18. A tool that I have learned about on Inkscape was the pencil tool. When we first had the chance to explore I was extremely confused on what it was and how to use it, but I figured out what it was with the help of the tutorials.

  19. If you need to fix up a shape or object you drew, all you have to do is go to the nodes tool and tweak one of the circles and it will change immediately. The tool will make your object look more like you want it to.
